She still receives a salary.

"Can I say euphoric, "asks Deborah for a "class" whose goal was to train her to be failed a test of sanity. "Can. Very excited, exhilarated and with very short fuse, " the doctor replies. "No mistake, and any resident of the first year of psychiatry, hearing you, will say: 'That girl is bipolar, '" says the psychiatrist. Her husband, businessman George Guerner, who is also imprisoned, went through it. The "lessons"were given room in the house of Deborah in Brasilia and earned the nickname "theater of madness" behind the scenes of the investigation.

Estudo indica que perder peso é melhor forma de curar ronco Studies indicate that losing weight is best way to cure snoring

ANAHAD O'CONNOR
DO "NEW YORK TIMES"

BOTTOM LINE
THE NEW YORK TIMES

The chronic snoring can be more than just a nuisance noisy.

Up to three quarters of snorers also suffer from sleep apnea, which causes interruptions in breathing during the night. The apnea increases risk of heart disease, stroke and hypertension.

Those who search for a cure are often advised to sleep on your side, not belly up, so that the base of the tongue does not move to the back of the throat, narrowing the airway and obstructing breathing. For some people, however, change your sleeping position may not make much difference.
Scientists say there are two types of snorers, those who snore only when sleeping on their backs and those who snore in any position.

A study that surveyed more than 2,000 patients of sleep apnea, conducted by researchers in Israel found that 54% were "parameters"that is, snoring only when they slept on their backs. The rest was "non-positional. "

Other studies have shown that weight has an important role. In a large study published in 1997, patients who snored or had breathing abnormalities only when sleeping on your back were generally leaner, while non-positional equivalents used to be heavier. Overweight, according to the authors, showed a worse sleep and more daytime fatigue.

However, the study also found that these patients saw their apnea improve when they lost weight. According to the National Sleep Foundation in the U.S., for those overweight, losing weight is often the best way to cure sleep apnea and snoring away with altogether.

In conclusion, sleep on your side can help reduce snoring, but overweight people will not see much difference if not lose weight.

Médicos aprendem métodos para dar más notícias aos pacientes Doctors learn methods to deliver bad news to patients

Dieta gordurosa pode reverter insuficiência renal do diabetes High-fat diet can reverse kidney failure in diabetes

A diet high in fat and low carbohydrate diets can reverse kidney failure in mice with diabetes, according to a study by U.S. scientists.

In research published in the journal PLoS ONE, scientists from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, examined the effects of a diet composed of 87% fat on a group of mice prone to types 1 and 2 diabetes.

Excess blood sugar in diabetics can cause kidney damage, creating a history of renal failure.

Guinea pigs were divided into two groups. When renal failure was manifested, half of them went on to receive a normal diet and the other the high-fat diet.

After eight weeks, scientists noticed that the damage in the kidneys of rodents had been reversed.

Doctors and nutritionists warn that the high fat diet, which mimics the effects of starvation, should not be undertaken without medical supervision.

QUESTIONS

"Our study is the first to demonstrate that an intervention through diet alone is sufficient to reverse this serious complication of diabetes," said Professor Charles Mobbs, who led the research.

"I certainly think (the survey) brings hope, but I can not recommend it until we have done clinical trials," he added.

The director of research at Diabetes UK entity, which fight disease, raised questions about the study, questioning the ability of humans can keep this diet so healthy.

"This research was conducted with mice, so it is difficult to see whether these results would translate into real benefits for people with diabetes at this stage," he said.

"It's very simple to say that kidney failure can be prevented with diet alone, and also is questionable whether the diet used here would be sustainable for humans, even in the short term."

According to 2007 figures cited by the Ministry of Health, diabetes affects more than 6.3 million Brazilians, or 5.2% of the adult population.
